Activities
BARKThis organization helps children improve their reading skills and self confidence as they read to certified therapy dogs. Proceeds from Eta's annual fundraiser at Barnes and Noble Book Store help purchase more books for this organization.
For The Child
One of Eta's yearly projects is to donate books and bears during the holiday season to For the Child, a local child abuse prevention agency.
The Jared Box Project
Annually, Eta members create Jared Boxes for critically ill children at Miller Children's Hospital. The boxes are filled with toys and activities to provide comfort for children undergoing treatment at the hospital.
THAT
The Teachers Helping Another Teacher (THAT) Program supports classroom teachers. Members can provide assistance to individual teachers, a particular school, a school district, community and local government officials, and higher education and professional development.
World Fellowship
Through donations and correspondence, Eta chapter supports the women participating in this DKG international project. To date more than 555 women from over 100 countries have received fellowships to enable them to pursue advanced study in the United States and Canada.
Grants-in-Aid
At the June meetings recruitment grants are awarded to outstanding women student teachers from California State University at Long Beach. From the continued efforts and generous donations of our members, Eta has been able to award 5 grants of $1000 each.
Buck a Book- Schools for Africa
Eta chapter members contribute to the efforts of Delta Kappa Gamma International and others to support the Schools for Africa program by donating and reselling used books. Monies collected help to improve the basic education in 11 African countries, build schools, train teachers, purchase supplies, insure safe drinking water, and create schools that offer a protective environment.
